Review :: The Grab-It Pack – Perfect Fit for Photographers

The Grab-It Pack is a strap-on pack that fits around your waist and your thigh much like you’re a cowboy in an old Western movie. Louis Kiss, a special makeup effects artist and stunt man in the film industry, designed the product. (The review continues after the Jump.)…
On day, out of the blue, we received an e-mail from Louis asking if we’d like to try one. Of course, being the bag freaks that we are this was a simple answer.
How secure is your gear? Will it fall out? Well, for two straight weeks we jogged with the Grab-It Pack . Inside the three pockets: mobile phone, Leica D-Lux 4 camera, and small 2AA flashlight. The D-Lux 4 was also kept in a small padded case for extra protection. During our run everything was held securely in place and balanced so as not to interfere with running or walking. Everything is held in place with either zippers, Velcro and/or snap closures. We found it to be quite comfortable and balanced. And, if it rains the Grab-It Pack is made out of water-resistant nylon.
It makes sense when you want to keep the weight off your back and around your waist like a fanny pack but with more flexibility and space. There’s plenty of space for small gear that could include a light or flash meter/flashlights, keys, small notebook, point-and-shoot camera, pens, phone, memory cards, cable release and such. Access to your “stuff” is easy and quick.
In order to see how much attention the Grab-It Pack would attract we wore ours in public to see if anyone paid any attention since it may remind people of a gun holster. To our surprise no one seemed to take heed or notice.
We’re surprised at how the Grab-It Pack feels right at home finding ourselves wearing it daily. The Grab-It Pack is now an essential park of our attire. Grab-It Pack fits in nicely to virtually anyone regardless of whether you use it for photography or not.
One accessory we’d like to see is thin non-abrasive protective padding for the biggest pocket so that you can drop your point-and-shoot camera right in it.
Louis has already indicated that there are plans for new models to accommodate even more lifestyles. Based on our personal experience it makes sense to expand on this.
